LANDSCAPE OF OUR LIFE
Living alongside the workers, the painter catches them in their daily activities of planting and cutting sugarcane. The representations have been transplanted into the painting with a strong predominance of earth and red colours - in yellows, blues and greens -, to indicate a life of little hope. But the pictorial view has also captured these workers at leisure and their attempt at opening themselves to a happy life. In all the works there is a dramatic sentiment which takes us back to artists such as Soutine, Van Gogh, Daumier and the German expressionists. Critiques |
